Sustainable homes

A second round of consultation on the Government’s proposed eco-towns will be open until 19 February 2009. As part of the consultation a new website has been launched http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/campaigns/ecotowns/DG_171848 to both explain the eco-town's concept and standards, and to invite comments and ideas.

France has some of Europe's strictest environmental legislation in the built environment. The French government is particularly stringent on insulation,which is aimed at reducing CO2 emissions. For example, building regulations in new residential buildings stipulate that 40% of the windows in a development must be south facing and 20% north-, east- and west-facing to maximise passive solar gain.
