Greece looks to dominate European tourism

25/05/2006

Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis has recently expressed his belief that his country can dominate the European tourism sector, reports www.new-europe.info

Addressing the Regular General Assembly of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) earlier this month, Mr Karamanlis said in the coming years Greece can become a first power in European tourism and leisure travel.

He said that through the provision of high quality tourist services the Greek tourist industry can enjoy a season that lasts 12 months a year.  Mr Karamanlis added that “the tourist product is bound to its country. It is the experience of Greece.”

The prime minister went on to speak about the unprecedented rise in international fuel prices and the pressure that this is putting on European, western and developing economies.  He said that realistic assessments have been made and the government is forging ahead with prudence and a sense of responsibility.
