Getting Online with Auction Property

Posted by Jude Buttle on Friday, July 25, 2008

TheMoveChannel.com is gearing up for its first UK property auction on August 12th, being held in conjunction with Sutton Kersh Binstock Auctioneers.

Online bidding is already practiced amongst a number of organizations in the USA, where the benefits to potential buyers - often too busy to travel to the auction location - have resulted in rapid growth in the number of online auctions taking place.

Bidding online is similar to bidding over the telephone, but even better as it also allows you to view what's going on in the auction room via a streamed video webcast.

Webcasts offer real-time audio and video, allowing bidders to listen to the auctioneer, view the event and bid remotely on properties from their home or office.

If the buyer stays online during the auction then they can monitor the progress of the item and increase their bid, either up to a predetermined maximum bid, or to an unlimited value (subject to prior agreement with the auctioneer).

This means that clients do not have to compromise their valuable time travelling to the auction. All that's needed is a pre-registration and an internet connection while the auction is being webcast.

This type of online bidding is slightly different - and more flexible - than the approach offered by a number of other organisations, such as E-Bay. That type of online bidding system sees events go on for weeks, sometimes months, in a process that loses the immediacy of a real-time auction and which therefore usually leads to a lower selling price. A competitive bidding process has been scientifically proven to achieve higher selling prices, not least because emotional buyers can get carried away and jump in with crazy last minute bids to secure the item.

For buyers wishing to avoid such a scenario, there is also the pre-bid option, which allows the buyer to submit his maximum offer before the live event. This amount is registered and if it is not exceeded, the property becomes theirs. This figure is kept confidential from other bidders and the seller.

The next auction will be held on Tuesday 12th of August 2008 with catalogues readily available approximately 3 weeks in advance. Catalogues can be obtained by requesting a hard copy over the telephone or they can be conveniently accessed online.
