Home Grown Talent - Theo Walcott

Posted by Jude Buttle on Friday, September 19, 2008

Still only 19, Theo Walcott is fast as lightning, has a mature head on his young shoulders and is tipped to be a star for both Arsenal and England.

London Lad

Born in Stanmore in the borough of Harrow, North London, in 1989, Theo Walcott grew up in the small village of Compton, Berkshire, near Newbury.

During his fledgling years, he played for local team AFC Newbury, scoring more than 100 goals in one season there.

Saint Walcott

Walcott signed apprentice terms with Southampton (nick-named the Saints) and was their youngest ever player when he made his debut as a substitute for the Saints in 2005, at the tender age of 16 years and 143 days.

His precocious talent and incredible speed on the wing was soon noticed and he was bought by Arsenal in 2006, for a fee of £5 million, which could rise to £12 million depending on number of appearances.

National Pride

In May 2006, before even making a premiership appearance for Arsenal, Walcott became the youngest ever player to wear the three lions shirt of England at senior level when he came on as a substitute against Hungary in a friendly international, at just 17 years and 75 days.

To the shock of the football world, Walcott was selected for the England squad that went to the World Cup in Germany in 2006, even though the then national manager, Sven Goran Eriksson, had never seen him play in the flesh.

Walcott never kicked a ball in the tournament and England were eliminated in the quarter finals by a Cristiano Ronaldo inspired Portugal.

Walcott didn't play again for England until new manager Fabio Capello, recalled him in June 2008.

Hat-trick Hero

The young player's talent is being developed and encouraged by his club manager, Arsene Wenger and now national team coach Capello, who picked Walcott for England in the vital World Cup qualifier against Croatia in Zagreb. Walcott rose to the occasion, scoring his first goal for his country and completing a memorable hat-trick as England crushed Croatia 4-1.

Property Talent

Walcott left his house in Compton, Newbury in the hands of his sister, and now lives in a five-bedroom villa near Arsenal's training ground in Hertfordshire, which he shares with his parents and brother.

If Walcott decided to return to his roots, then he could do worse than the Denbil Court development, which offers nine superb high specification homes.

Built by Westbuild Homes and located in the Shaw area of Newbury in Berkshire, the development offers a choice of four two bedroom duplexes; four two bedroom apartments and a two bedroom end-of-terrace house.

Each property is equipped with an approved alarm system with colour video phone and electronic door opening for added convenience and security.

The Shaw area has an abundance of sporting venues for riding, golf, fishing or just relaxing on or by one of the rivers. Also the famous Newbury racecourse resides nearby. Prices range from £195,000 to £259,000.

If Walcott wanted to stay closer to his current employers, then this spacious five bedroom family house in the Stevenage area of Hertfordshire would allow him to pop home quickly after a hard training session in the morning to watch some daytime TV or play video games.

The property comprises of five bedrooms and four en suite bathrooms and is situated in the picturesque village of Walkern, which is set by the River Beane. Purchase price £399,950.
