2 Month Notice form my landlord

My land lord gave me notice today, I have been in the contract for 6 out of the 12 months, and he has exercised the clause that said he could give us 2 months notice to move out.

This is all fine, but the end of the notice he has given us is 28 November (8mths through), I asked if we could move out at end of October (25th say), but he said we would still need to pay him for the full notice period?

Is this true??

He said he needed the flat for Family to move in. Ideally we would like to move out sooner. I would just like to know where i stand before discuss this with him further.

Thanks
Matt

Although I have recently read a little legal argy-bargy about this, I have always understood the law to interpret the serving of a valid S21 notice to mean that the landlord wants his property back WITHIN the next two months. This means that the leaving tenant is only required to pay rent up until he vacates the property. It is impossible for a tenant in this situation to find a new property to move into on and only on the day that the S21 notice expires and the law allows such a tenant to leave early and owe no further rent.

P.P.

Thats what i thought, but was unsure as the total term of the contract has not yet expired.

Does anyone know where i could get some free official legal advice?
