I checked out the Bradford & Bingley www.marketplace.co.uk site recommended under the Find a Surveryor section of this website & subsequently contacted their Cheadle Hume office in Manchester for a full buildings survey (they call it a 'Secure Move buildings survey'). The typical cost quoted for this service in the PDF file I downloaded from their website was £400. The quote I was given was £555.
I asked why my quote was so much higher than their 'typical' quote & was told that the typical quote is based on a property of £50k in value.
To me, this is grossly misleading & time-wasting. Consider that the average price of homes bought this year in the UK is about £100k (more than I am considering spending, by the way). Bradford & Bingley just shrugged it off, but companies which falsely advertise in this way wind me up & since you guys put me on to them, I thought I should at least point this out to you.
Good (movechannel) website, though.
