If you are entitled to buy a council flat and have the necessary cash available, then I can't see the problem - just go to a solicitor who has experience in buying local authority housing for tenants ( it isn't the same as ordinary housebuying) and you should have no problems. Your local authority housing department can probably recommend a suitably experienced solicitor to represent you if you have trouble in this direction. With regards to a mortgage, the mortgage company will need to be satisfied that with your income, you will be able to meet your mortgage repayments when existing commitments and other mortgages are concerned, so you need to contact a few mortgage companies or a broker. P.P.
