Painting alluminium?

We've got some ugly shiny alluminium windows in our house, which we have tried to paint. The paint doesn't stay on though, and we can't really afford to replace the windows. Any suggestions for an alternative to paint?

You an actually get special alluminium paint from big diy stores. Have you tried that? You can probably even get it on the web from someone like B&Q (I think their website is www.diy.com).
