Thames-side flood risk

With the new online flood risk maps Environment Agency showing that great swathes of London's riverside property could be at severe risk of flooding, will the value of such homes beign to react?
If so when? Will the Thames barrier be much use to people in Docklands? What are the potential future London hotspots, that have little or no danger of being flooded?

With the amount of new development still going on along the Thames and in areas on both sides of the river that show up as flood risk, I certainly don't think that the developers are factoring in the risk in their short to medium term plans. I have read that the average sea level may take 30 years or more to tise just one foot - this is something that the Thames barrier would be easily able to cope with. More likely to cause problems are the sewer and drainage systems, which are bound to flood more often as annual rain fall keeps on climbing.

Never mind London, what about the whole Eastern and Western seaboards of USA. In fact, all around the world there are lots of cities built on the coast - it is something to do with using ships to get around most of the time in the olden days!

Some scientists believe the fallout from global warming is far worse than most people predict. If we don't wise up pretty quick and slow down our pollution rate, there's going to be citizens knee-deep in water in all sorts of countries!

Never mind the value of properties falling, how long will it be before the cost of property in places like Scotland starts to spiral, as buyers realise that it will eventually become a much more attractive holiday destination!

Where will the Scottish riviera be?

I reckon the castaway 2000 island looks like a pretty good place. Lovely beaches, crystal blue seas - if it doesn't get submerged, I think it may be a 'mediterrannean' paradise in fifty years or so!
