complaints on maintenance man and m...

I live in an apartment which happens to be public housing. Here they often do spot inspections, which have never been a problem before. This time there was mold on the ceiling of my bathroom, which is caused from condensation due primarily to poor ventilation in the bathroom. While I was at work someone, most likely maintenance came in and spray my entire bathroom cieling with what I can only describe as chlorine bleach, ruining several of my personal belongings in the bathroom including: washcloths, towel, rugs and other things were spattered w/ bleach and stained. The fumes were so bad in the house when I opened the door that my eyes were burning, we were having trouble breathing and had to open all windows to allow the house to air. What are my rights and responsibilities in this situation. I am in the process of setting up an appointment with my apartment manager in order to conduct an informal grievance hearing. I plan on asking for a summary of her desicions etc. If anyone has an insight on my situation,I would be more than greatful for your feedback.

If you requested a work order, and gave permission to enter in your absence, you really place yourself in the hands of the maintenance staff, using bleach to rid mold is common practice, I myself would use it, but your belongings should have been removed before treatment, the apartment management have an obligation to reimburse you, if the manager gives you no help, go to the landlords, and the better business bureau.
