 estate agents take the biscuit

I think i know what they spend most of their fees on - paying people to blanket whole roads with those stupid 'would you like to sell your home?' ads.
We've gotten 3 so far this week, though have often had one or two a day some weeks, but rather than make persuading me to sell my house it's just put me off more and more!
Surely if I were to sell up I would get in touch with them first? My house is more than an investment, it's mine and my family's home. Am I the only one who thinks this?
