joint ownership with my local council

Hello,

I am after some advice and I dont really know where to start! I have the opportunity to buy a house which is jointly owned with my local council 50-50 but I am unsure of how this works and the pros and cons. Any adice or if someone could point me in the right direction it would much apprecitaed
