builders contract of works

 
Hi all, this is my first time so be gentle, what i would like to know is.
I have just bought a property which needs a total makeover i.e., roof repairs, walls re-plastering,re-wiring,new bathroom,new kitchen,cellar needs the floor lowering a little(not sure if there is a minimum height requirement, it's approx 6ft at present).
is there a standard contract i can down load to use to get quotes from builders, that covers all areas, such as payment details,when payment is due after each part of the work is compleated. also, is there a helpful checklist for me to use, to make sure i have'nt missed anything out, i.e., when you get quotes do they itemise all the bits needed such as door hinges,door furniture,locks etc. or am i supposed to remember it all.
sorry to go on, but your help and surgestions would be greatly appreciated.
