Clean...

Your home should be reasonably clean when viewers come round. You don't need to bleach the whole house, but make sure that there's not too much on the kitchen floor for the rats to feed on, and that you wipe away the mould from it's home on the walls.

Bathrooms and kitchens are the most important for cleanliness as, it is a bit more acceptable for the other rooms to have a bit more of a lived in feel to them. Make sure that you get rid of all the lime scale deposits in the bathroom, and clean up any nasty mess that may have been lingering for a while. Give the place a quick polish too. Get rid of empty or nearly finished toiletries. These make bathrooms look too cluttered.

The watchwords here are Clean, Hygienic and Spacious. If you're the sort of person who lets a weeks worth of washing up build up before you give every last item of crockery and cutlery a good wash, try to change your ways for a while and keep the place looking like a chef's shiny silver platter. Keep your work surfaces free of clutter and wipe the table down so that it is clean enough to eat your dinner at, though making it clean enough to eat your dinner off is probably not necessary.

Here are a few other pointers:

Things should be clean to the touch. In other words, make sure you dust before viewers come round and get rid of the little toenail collection from wherever it may be accumulating.
Dust the cobwebs from your ceilings, blitz the dust on your shelves and give your TV a wipe.
Getting your carpets cleaned is not a bad idea. It's amazing how much life it can breathe into a room.
Clean the windows. Grimy windows make the place look a bit tatty and neglected. They also stop any magnificent views the property may enjoy from having the desired effect.
Clean or repaint the skirting boards, especially if you decorate anywhere else.
Dry-clean or steam clean your curtains.
Make sure that your rubbish bins are clean and don't' smell badly.
