15 million Brits "cook up excuses" to dodge DIY over a typical Bank Holiday weekend, according to Legal & General.
The insurance firm's new report revealed this week that two-thirds of UK homeowners claim to "roll up their sleeves and stuck into home maintenance" but that excuses are rife among many residents.
2.8m hide down the pub with friends, while 1.9m prefer to spend their time with family and in-laws. 3.2m, meanwhile, plan a day trip away from the home to avoid looking at the chores that need doing. A further 2.6m say that they will go on holiday.
L&G's director of general insurance, Mike Lawler, comments: "Unfortunately, many homeowners are not aware that they do have a responsibility to look after their property and make sure it is in a good state of repair as part of the terms of their home insurance cover."
"Spending some time over the long bank holiday to fix those ‘little' problems around the home may be boring compared with other things they could do – but prevention is always much better than a cure," he adds.
