A Bit of Background

Loulé is a city and a municipality in Portugal. The council has an area of 764.2 km² and houses a total population of 62,295 inhabitants. Local attractions include the Castle of Loulé, an annual carnival, the local market and several churches.

Loulé as a city is mostly finance and banking industries, so people don’t usually buy property there, apart from those who work within finance.

Across the whole council area, though, there’s a higher level of buyer demand.

Agents Say…

“It’s more expensive than the familiar tourist destinations, but you can pick up a nice rural villa with a fantastic sea view.”

Getting There

The Algarve’s main airport is Faro. This is the best place to start because Loulé is only a stone’s throw from Faro. Flights to Faro are operated by all major airlines, with the most popular routes coming from the UK’s London, Dublin and Manchester airports.

TrainsOnce you’ve landed, the fastest route to Loulé is by train. There are services that run throughout the day and the journey will take between 10 and 20 minutes approximately. However, Loulé station is 5km outside of town, which requires further travel by bus, taxi or a brisk walk to the centre.

AutomobilesBuses run regularly from Faro to Loulé, but unlike the train, a bus will get you into the town proper. Taxis are an option, as the distance makes it a cheap fare. Renting a car may be required if you’re looking to tour the wider area.

Who’s Buying?

Whos-Buying-Property

While it’s a little pricier than other Algarve locations, UK buyers express the most interest in property in Loulé, demonstrating that this is a demand area for discerning investors and expats looking to buck trends with high-end assets.

Loulé’s wealthy buyers also hail from Portugal, emphasising its strength as a local market for high-net-worth Portuguese investors.

The next biggest sources of interest are the USA, Canada and Ireland. Investors from these countries tend to follow the habits of those in the UK and, with the strong dollar on their side, luxury second homes and holiday flats will be attractive as an alternative to other lifestyle destinations.
