Despite the weakened pound and uncertainty over Brexit, British interest in Spanish property remains high, with interest turning to more affordable hotspots, such as Almeria.
Overseas interest in Almeria’s property is accelerating, according to the Spanish property registrars. On a quarterly basis, property sales in Almeria are up by 93 per cent when compared with Q3 2015, says to the registrars’ figures. With the rest of Spain’s sales growing modestly, Almeria stands out as enjoying a significant boom.
Almeria is in Andalusia, on Spain’s southern, Mediterranean coastline. While other Costas were busy erecting high rise developments in the late 1960s, to cram in as many tourists as possible, Costa Almeria remained largely untouched. Today, the coastal towns of Almeria effuse a sun-kissed charm that their more developed neighbours have lost to some degree.
Crucially, Almeria offers exceptional value for money. Property here costs a fraction of what it does in the neighbouring Costas. Indeed, in Almeria, the average property costs €129,000, compared to Alicante (€210,000) and Malaga (€295,000). On average, Spanish property is now 41.3 per cent below the market’s 2007 peak, according to Tinsa’s index, which means that places such as Almeria offer strong potential for capital growth.
Indeed, enquiries for Spanish property overall on TheMoveChannel.com doubled month-on-month in December 2016, as the country also dominated our Q4 2016 Hotspots Index , accounting for 18 out of the Top 50 most searched-for locations in the world – up from 10 in Q3 and higher than any other country. Almeria was the 16th most sought-after destination, which marked the emerging destination’s first time in the Top 50.
