Johnny Depp sells small French village

Johnny Depp has listed his French estate on the market for a cool $25 million.

While many celebrities will have a large mansion or extravagant island estate, the Pirates of the Caribbean star’s pad is something more ostentatious: an entire French village.

The “hameau”, which consists of more than a dozen buildings, spans a total of 37 acres. For sale as one big bundle, the lucky buyer would not just get a main house, but also several guest cottages, a chapel that has been converted for people to sleep in and an authentic restaurant.

In total, the property offers approx. 1,000 square metres of living space, with over 12 bedrooms and bathrooms.

Equally unusual is its decor, which was not chosen by an interior designed, but by Depp himself.

The actor acquired the estate in 2001, and over the following 14 years spent a substantial amount of time on the property with his then partner, French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis. During that period, he invested more than $10 million in restoring the properties and redecorating with his own taste.

The result is, as the Sotheby’s listing describes, “not a ritzy showplace, but an utterly charming family home”.

Alexander Kraft, chairman & CEO of Sotheby’s International Realty France, comments: “Johnny’s used the property extensively to get away from the Hollywood hustle, recharge his batteries and reconnect with nature. He truly loved this property which allowed him to lead a normal, tranquil life and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. It is here where he taught his kids, Lily-Rose and Jack, to appreciate such essential values as respect of nature and a healthy, down-to-earth lifestyle.”

The listing goes on to note that the movie star is “also a talented musician and painter”. Indeed, as well as the unique interior decor, the property will also include a range of personal belongings and artworks.

The estate itself is located in Plan de la Tour in Southern France, approximately 17 miles north of Saint Tropez and, 80 minutes from the international airport of Nice and an hour from Cannes. It also approximately 30 miles from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s French chateau.

Kraft continues: “Johnny has decided to sell the Plan de la Tour – property to close this chapter of his life and move on. He hopes that someone else will enjoy the property as much as he did and bring him or her the same happiness it brought him.

“Where else in the world can guests sleep in a converted village church, sample wines in a tasting cave that resembles a Pirates of the Caribbean set, and in the evening meet in an authentic Provencal village restaurant and bar?”

The price for a piece of Depp’s bohemian lifestyle? $25.76 million.
