Brexit: EU doesn’t want UK punished or “to take revenge”

The European Parliament’s lead Brexit negotiator has told Sky News he doesn’t appreciate Theresa May’s apparent threat to weaken security commitments to the European Union if Britain is denied a trade deal.

Guy Verhofstadt told Sky’s Adam Boulton her letter triggering Article 50 was largely constructive, but said it would be wrong to use and abuse the security of citizens to secure a good economic deal.
