British Airways has tipped ten worldwide destinations for the top next year in their latest travel trends report - and has revealed that sporting events and eco tourism will have a big effect on our choice of holiday venue...
South Africa and Vancouver in Canada are just two of the countries expecting an influx of tourists next year as they flock to the World Cup and the Winter Olympics.
International sporting competitions will always attract a larger than average number of visitors to a country - and the latest travel trends survey from British Airways has shown this to be true, even in light of the credit crunch.
It seems that despite the purse-tightening going on all over the world, people are still prepared to travel to far-flung destinations if there's a whiff of some top sporting action.
Another country tipped for tourism success in 2010 is Sweden's stunning capital city of Stockholm, which is banking on its green appeal. The city has just been awarded the title of European Green Capital for 2010.
Topping the travel trends list, which highlighted our holiday venues of choice for 2010, is Cape Town, which is expecting around half a million supporters for the world's biggest international football competition.
Sue Botes, BA commercial manager in South Africa, said, "Cape Town has always been a popular destination, we expect the World Cup to push it to the top of the long haul league table as the best place to be in 2010."
It is followed by Istanbul, which has taken over the accolade of European Capital of Culture from Vilnius in Lithuania.
Old favourites such as Las Vegas and New York - great for an affordable shopping spree - made it onto the list alongside more unusual destinations such as beautiful Dubrovnik in Croatia and Delhi in India.
Delhi is set to become a new hotspot thanks to its hosting of the Commonwealth Games next year.
