The Newcastle to Dubai route, which began a year ago by Emirates Airlines, has proved popular with both leisure and business travelers.
Dubai's international
property market is booming and, over the last year, more than 140,000 people
have boarded the daily service from Newcastle to
Dubai.
Vic Sheppard, Vice President of Emirates in the UK
and Ireland,
said, "Given that it has been a challenging time for the entire airline
industry, we are delighted to have received such strong support from the
north-east travelling public."
The direct flight, which began on September the 1st last year,
represented Newcastle's
first ever long haul flight.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of the Emirates Airline and Group said, "The flights offer passengers around the globe a new gateway into the United Kingdom, and better access to the North-east region - one of the UK's fastest developing areas for tourism and commerce.
"The flights have boosted inbound tourism and commerce, and fostered strong trade and tourism links between the UK's North-east and Dubai," HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum added.
