Floods - oh no, not again!

08/12/2000

Fresh misery for Britain's beleaguered homeowners came with the familiar sound of rain lashing down on rooftops across the country last night, with over 2 inches falling in many areas.

Two severe flood warnings are in force on the River Monnow at Osbeaston and Over Monnow in South East Wales. A total of 140 Flood Warnings are in force through Devon and Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, with the worst hit being the rivers Severn, Vrynwy and Lower Dee. Many more rivers in South West and South East Wales and across central and southern England are also on high alert.

There has already been renewed disruption to transport links in many regions of South West England and Wales, with road and rail services worst hit. Reporters are now forecasting that we could be in for another hellish week, with more rain predicting to come in further heavy bands of wet weather.
