Scots to get own flood maps

08/12/2000

Yesterday, the Environment agency announced that it had launched a new online flood map, which allows homeowners to check whether their property lies in a flood risk area. Not to be outdone, the Scots are soon to launch their own service.

Talks are to take place next week between Ordnance Survey and the Scottish Executive, with a view to putting similar flood maps online. The maps are currently held in the offices of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

The maps were drawn up in association with the Ordnance Survey after research by SEPA and the Institute of Hydrology, which identified areas that may be at risk from flooding by Scotland's rivers at some point in the next 100 years.
