And still the rain came down...

13/12/2000

As the bad weather continues it seems nobody's home is safe from flooding. Over 100 flood warnings are in place this morning, four of them severe. The worst affected areas are along the River Severn with Worcester and Gloucester particularly badly hit.

With such a short time lag since the last deluge, water has not had time to drain away and water tables are rising. Yesterday brought the disaster to many homes for the first time despite assurances from the MET Office that "It was not as bad as some of the weather we had during the floods in October, but it has still been pretty bad."

The South East is again badly hit with super-saturation of the ground occurring in Hampshire while Midhurst in West Sussex saw water being pumped out of the town centre for over four hours. Residents living near the River Ems were receiving sandbags as the river threatened nearby homes, and in Sussex, bulldozers were being used to prepare and restore sea defences.

With rivers high across the country and the MET Office warning of more rain to come the Environment has warned anyone living on a floodplain they maybe at risk.
