House hunters spooked

Friday, October 31, 2008

Catherine Deshayes

New research has shown that nearly 40 per cent of house hunters would be put off buying or renting a home if they believed it to be haunted, according to Moveme.com...

The survey of over 600 movers also found that 28 per cent of house hunters wouldn't live in a property if they knew a previous owner had died there, and 22 per cent would avoid a home if it was numbered 13.

Jonathan Turpin, Chief Executive of Moveme.com, said, "This research demonstrates that the nation's home movers are a superstitious bunch, with tales of the paranormal proving the biggest deterrent.

"It is somewhat surprising that in this day and age people would risk losing their dream home because of a ghost story! On the other hand home buyers might benefit by being able to negotiate a good price if they buy number 13."
