Brush up on money matters

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Catherine Deshayes

A new guide to managing your money when investing or moving abroad has been published.

Expat Money: The Definitive Personal Finance Manual for Brits Abroad, by Hannah Beecham and John O'Mahony, was published yesterday, August 26th.

Useful reading for all expat-Brits, it will help you to avoid potential financial pitfalls and costly mistakes when emigrating or investing overseas.

Expat Money covers everything you need to know to manage their finances including currency exchange, offshore banking and saving, offshore mortgages, ethical investing, investment opportunities, insurance and health cover issues, pensions and retiring abroad, expatriate non-resident status, and how to deal with the tax authorities both at home and away.

Co-author Hannah Beecham says, "You need to know how to access your money whilst abroad and how to mange your financial affairs to your best possible advantage.

"Organising a new stream of money transmission facilities, attending to bills in different currencies, and learning the rudiments of a foreign taxation system, may not a sound like a bundle of fun.

"But unless your money follows you (unhindered by expensive exchange rates or impaled on foreign tax liabilities) you won't be having much fun anyway, wherever you may be," she adds.

Ms Beecham is currently launching the Expat Channel, the first online TV channel dedicated exclusively to the worldwide British expatriate community. Visit www.expatmoney.blogspot.com to find out more.

Expat Money is published by Summersdale, and available in all good bookshops priced at £8.99.
