Full Description

About the residence The building is of brick construction (the walls are 60 cm thick) under a roof which was redone 5 years ago. The building consists of 6 floors all arranged in four lofts. It also has a basement and a large garage. The window frames are made of cast-iron, the staircase is of brick and concrete and the staircase walls are decorated by local artists from the neighbourhood. About the loft The loft is arranged over three floors: the 4th, the 5th and the 6th. The 4th and 5th floors have a 420 sqm living area and the 6th floor a 210 sqm living area. Total surface is 630 sqm. The 4th floor also benefits from a 80 sqm terrace. The apartment has a 12 sqm box room on the 3rd floor; an enclosed garage with grid so it is isolated from the common garage on the ground floor. Surface of the garage is of 200 sqm – there is enough room for four cars. Finally, surface of the basement is of 237 sqm. First level of the loft consists of a cloackroom which can be closed with a sliding door, an equipped and fitted kitchen and a toilet in a small room. The floor is polished and several cast-iron pillars covered with cement hold the upper floors. All window frames are also made of cast-iron except the French door giving access to the wooden terrace. This first level is used as a reception room. A wrought iron bookcase with a storage capacity of 800 books is incorporated into the walls. A sliding ladder affords access to the upper shelves. A gas stove – with fake logs - and four large radiators are also incorporated into the walls. The second level of the loft is comprised of a study room, a small living room, a lovely bedroom with two windows and a larger one with a gas stove, three windows and a direct access to an ample bathroom with a cast-iron bath in the middle, a very comfortable shower and two washbasins. The toilets are separated by a sliding door. The two gas boilers, the washing machine and the dryer are in two different rooms. The two bedrooms have fitted wardrobes with clothes racks. The floors on the second level are covered with jute carpet. The third and last level is located just under the roof with visible wooden beams and roof windows. The third level has a fitted and equipped kitchen (excluding a dishwasher) and a bathroom with toilet. A wooden bookcase and cupboards are incorporated into the walls. Their position allows using the room as another bedroom if necessary. Location and attractions Brussels is more than a 1000 years old. Today the name Brussels stands for an agglomeration of 19 communes forming one of the three Regions of the federal Belgian state; the capital of the Kingdom of Belgium; the headquarters of the French and Flemish Communities. Brussels also has an important international vocation : as the European capital the city is home to the European Commission and to the Council of ministers of the European Union (EU). Brussels is the bilingual capital of Belgium. This means that both French and Dutch are the official languages of the city. Street names and traffic signs are always in these two languages. Furthermore, it is a cosmopolitan city where many different cultures live together and where different languages can be heard on each street. This liveliness and international flair is, of course, intimately related to its role as a crossroads for all of Europe. The same variety and contrast can also be found in the different architectural styles that can be found in Brussels, the former capital of the medieval Duchy of Brabant. Gothic cathedrals and churches are next to - and sometimes in stark contrast with - gracious classical facades like the buildings around the Royal Square (Place Royale - Koningsplein), or beautiful art nouveau and art deco houses. The heart of Brussels and the place to start getting to know the city is the Grand'Place (Grote Market). This historic market square with its splendid guild houses and the impressive Gothic beauty of the Town Hall, is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful town squares in Europe. Access - By plane National Airport Zaventem - 15 km from the city centre Regular train, bus and coach services from the airport to the city can be consulted on the following website: brusselsairport.be - By car Routes to the city: The extensive motorway ring road around Brussels offers easy access into the city centre. Routes E19 and A12 lead north to Antwerp – from there, the E19 continues over the border toward Rotterdam and Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Route E19 also extends south to Paris, becoming E15. Route E40 links Brussels with Ghent – from there, Ostend is reachable via route E17. Route E411 links Brussels to Namur and route E40 to Liège, continuing east over the border toward Cologne, from where the E35 headstoward Frankfurt. - By bus Several companies such as De Lijn or TEC provide bus services to nearby Belgian cities – all are much slower than the equivalent train routes. Eurolines operates international services to major European destinations -By train Brussels has three main train stations. Gare du Nord has trains to the airport, plus Antwerp, Amsterdam and Cologne. Gare du Midi has trains to Paris, Ostende and Eurostar trains to London. Many trains also stop at Gare Centrale, which is located between the two main stations. Eurostar trains from London arrive and depart from Gare du Midi (Zuid Station in Flemish).
