Location

Wandering about the Umbrian countryside that from Perugia reaches the charming Lake Trasimeno, you may be surprised by the austere mass of the Eremo Camaldolese, discreetly hidden among rolling woody terrains, till it unexpectedly appears from the height of its 630 metres above sea level.
All around, an uninterrupted landscape, overlooking a vast area of Umbria and Tuscany, till the land confuses to the South with that in Latium.
It is maybe the architectural typology of the Eremo that best represents the striking characteristics of Umbria, a green land rich in history and great spirituality.
The property is just a few minutes from Perugia (15 km), from the Freeway E45 and it is well connected to the Freeway that leads to Rome-Florence (12 km). 
 

Description of the buildings

Built in the 13th century, it would eventually be ceded to the Benedictine Nuns and turned from Camaldolese Hermitage into a Nuns Enclosure.
The structure is on two levels, for a total of 879 sq metres with the volumes of the buildings that go round the inner court, creating a sort of small, fortified hamlet.
Inside, 10 suites have been realized, for a total of 11 double rooms and 11 bathrooms. To them, you add the owner’s house connected to the reception and composed of kitchen, studio and bathroom on the ground floor, two double rooms and a bathroom on the first floor.
The two spaces of the ancient church, 62 and 52 sq metres respectively, are of great charm and fascination, the one with a spectacular barrel vault in stone by the risen curve, the other with a wooden trussed roof.
The complex is completed by the old stables on the ground floor, completely restored and adapted to restaurant (59 sq metres) and kitchen (32 sq metres).
Besides the existing structures, it is possible to realize two further annexes to use for store rooms and two haylofts, respectively 48 and 115 gross sq meters each, for a total of 326 gross sq metres of annexes.

Use and possibilities

Restoration works, completed in 2003, has been done with care, with a particular attention to the recovery of the original characteristics. The inside of the Church, with wonderful vaults and the wooden trussed roof, are paved in slab stone.
In the inhabited part instead, handmade terracotta has been chosen for the paving while a warp of wooden beams and tiles dominates from the roof. Walls have been left showing stone in the suites as well.

Land

The Hermitage is located on top of a small hill surrounded by 25 hectares about of private land, including a chestnut grove, a part destined for pasture and some small woods.

For its structure and its agreeable, withdrawn position, at the same time easily reachable, close to important towns by the historical and artistic value such as Perugia (15 km) and Assisi (36 km) or to the Lake Trasimeno (28 km), the “Eremo Camaldolese” is worthy being destined for accommodation facility, for a domestic and international high-quality target.
