Chateau de Rethondes is located near the town of Compiegne in the Picardy region of northern France just 45 minutes from Paris. The chateau is situated within picturesque forest land, on the banks of the River Ainse. The site was originally a monastery in the 11th century, replaced by the original chateau in the 17th century, which was used by Napoleon III as a hunting lodge.
The area was also favoured by Louis XIV as it has the largest forest in France with a wealth of wildlife. Chateau de Rethondes is also just 800 metres from the location of the signing of Armistice in 1918 and the Palace of Compiegne features original 18th century paintings by the famous artist Jean-Baptiste Oudry, therefore the area is extremely attractive to tourists.
France remains the world's leading tourist destination, with around 82 million tourists per year and Paris alone attracts 42 million, and is unsurprisingly the most popular capital in the world.
The chateau offers just 55 rooms with prices starting at just €200,000.
