This three storey townhouse, restored in 2008, offers stunning views from balconies on the second and third floors. The property is full of original features, reworked during the restoration. In the kitchen the original pizza/bread oven and fireplace have been painstakingly revived to former glory, whilst in the basement bedroom, a rock carved out of the wall takes pride of place.

The property is over 90 sqm internally with basement bedroom, bathroom with bath, shower, toilet and sink. The central rooms comprise of separate kitchen and living room. Off the living room is a large balcony and the view is to die for. Beautiful wooden stairs lead to a second large bedroom and bathroom. Double doors from the bedroom open out on to a second large balcony/terrace with stunning sea and mountain views. The property is being sold unfurnished.

Situated in the honeycomb of townhouses on the south west side of the town and close to all of Santa Domenica’s shops, bars and restaurants, this is an ideal property for someone wishing to own a traditional centro storico property.

Santa Domenica Talao

The mountain village of Santa Domenica Talao is one of the most enchanting historic villages in northern Calabria. Situated on the Calabrian west coast, the village has a traditional Italian Centro Storico, which is set into the hillside of the Pollino National Park. With stunning views of both mountain and sea, the village has been featured on the American lifestyle show House Hunters International.

With its maze of narrow streets, a main piazza and meeting point for the locals, Santa Domenica Talao is a step back in time. The main piazza is the usual meeting place for many of the locals on a Sunday morning and typically the men play cards while the women take a stroll around the town. The locals are extremely friendly and neighbourly and the village has a great atmosphere.

The village itself has all the character and charm you would expect to find in this part of Italy and is supported by quaint bars, restaurants and other local amenities. There is a regular bus service running daily to Scalea and the coast, only 8km away.

Calabria

Calabria, up until now, has been untouched by foreign visitors. Italians have been having great holidays here for decades, but it has remained unknown to the rest of the world. Property prices in Calabria are a bargain.

Not only this but the cost of living here is one of the lowest in Western Europe, with annual bills on many apartments not exceeding €1000, fantastic local cuisine and wines that are light on the pocket and one of the warmest welcomes from the locals you are likely to find.

Calabria is a magical land with bright blue warm sea and lush high mountains. Around every corner is a new panoramic view. It has something to offer everyone, from beach holidays to skiing in the Sila mountains.

The climate here is amongst the best in the Mediterranean with long hot summers and very short mild winters. Which means that for 9 months of the year Scalea stays over 20°C.

The main towns are (from north to south): Praia a mare, Scalea, Diamante, Belvedere Marittimo, Cetraro, Paola and Amantea. The entire coastline has a stunning backdrop of mountain ranges which form the national parks in this part of Calabria (Pollino and Sila).

The entire area has very little industry and the air is clean and pollution free and the people of Calabria live to a grand old age (one of the best in Europe). The other advantage of being on the west coast is the fantastic sunsets over the sea.
