The city also has several sports clubs and leisure activities as well as two grammar schools, three primary schools and other educational institutions. Saalfeld is an important railway junction and is thus connected to various cities such as Leipzig, Erfurt and Jena. The city can also be reached via the federal roads B85 and B281.
