Ballao is a center of 800 inhabitants in the historic region of Gerrei, on the border between southern Sardinia and Barbagie. The river landscape is its great attraction: among rocks of unusual shapes and enchanting natural swimming pools, immersed in a rich vegetation, you can watch gray herons, pheasants, mallards and bee-eaters and, in the river, turtles and eels.
